Walk in the living room
Jessica Slaughter, an 86-year-old grandmother, has lost 54 pounds simply by taking 3000 steps every day between her living room and her kitchen. After struggling all her life against obesity, Jessica decided it was time to change things: “I chose to lose weight rather than stay obese (…) Even in Mississippi, I always been the most round child in the class. My husband often teased me about my weight, “said the American grandmother.
This transformation has been made over time. Indeed, it took almost a decade to lose as much weight, so the change was slow but surely. It all started by taking the first step in her living room. Subsequently, she made it a daily routine and thanks to her inflexible will, Jessica could have the silhouette she had always dreamed of.
But Jessica does not have much space at home. She lives in a very small apartment that includes a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. So she went back and forth between her living room and her kitchen, counting her number of steps thanks to an electronic device: “I do 3000 steps every morning (…) My little girl made me buy a pedometer, I did not even know what it was, “she told our colleagues at KSDK.
“I did not know how to stop eating”
Walking was not the only deciding factor in her impressive weight loss. Jessica got the trigger when she was diagnosed pre-diabetic. She has changed all her eating habits and converted to integral veganism. She explains, “I did not know how to stop eating.”
Yet Jessica decided at the age of 70 to remove all meat and animal products from her diet, she said:
“The banana, the orange, the grapes, the cereals, that’s all I have for breakfast.”
She also eats a lot of nuts, vegetables and hydrates enough throughout the day. her diet not only helps save the planet but also saved her own life:
“I was overweight and I just did not want to die like that.”
